Note: GoDaddy’s Partnered with Bitnami now, you may install Magento with 1 click
Magento Shops is quite a huge system, and problems with installation may occur even in the stage of copying files to a server. There are approximately 10,000 files in a default Magento package, so we will not copy them but we will copy the archive!
1. Copy archive
Create a zip archive from the latest stable version of Magento, or if you already have one, copy it to the GoDaddy server. There are several ways to do that: a) use a GoDaddy browser tool, b) use FTP.
Go to the hosting control center, open the Content section and go to File Manager. Now you will see the hosting directory. Press the “Upload” button, browse for the archive and upload it. It will take some time to upload.
When the archive is uploaded, go to File Manager as described above. Check the checkbox to the left of the archive, and press the “Unarchive” button. You should select the directory to which you will unarchive Magento. If it is the root directory, leave it as is.
Do not close File Manager window while the process is pending!
3. Check the files access rights
After the unarchiving process, all dirs and files are not accessible via the web browser so you need to set proper rights to certain files and dirs. Here is the dir list that should be set to be accessible: js, skin, media. There are too many items here, so I prefer to copy it via FTP. I just delete the described directories and upload them manually via FTP.
4. DB creation
If it was performed correctly, you should already see the installation guide’s first page at http://mydomain.com/install.php
If you don’t, something is wrong and we should find out why, but not in this article. 🙂
If everything is okay, you will see the installation’s first page.
Now you need to create a database. In the GoDaddy hosting manager, go to Databases->MySQL, click the “Create Database” button, select db name and press “Create.”
Wait until it is pending, and after that click on Edit Action for the new database to find the host, name and user of the database.
5. Finishing Magento Installation Process
Now nothing can stop you from finishing the installation.
Go to http://mydomain.com/install.php and follow the instructions.
